Qualifying for a Siberian
So, do you think you would like one of these beautiful creatures?
Please know that they are not for everyone!
1. Because they were bred to run, if they get loose, they are gone! Are you willing to go to the trouble and expense to create a secure, “Siberian Proof” fenced yard? Likewise, are you willing to keep your dog on a leash?
2. It is instinctive for this breed to dig holes and great fun to pull up your plants. Are you willing to forego elegant landscaping or to create a special area for your Siberian?
3. Siberians are very social and want to be a part of your family. Are you willing to give it much attention, take it places and see that it gets plenty of exercise? Are you willing to have two Siberians? Sibes enjoy a canine companion, especially another Siberian who knows the unique Siberian manner of play.
4. Siberians are double coated, have little odor, and usually stay quite clean. However, once or twice a year they go through a massive “blowing” of coat. Are you ready for the “snowstorm” and willing to have a brush handy until the storm ends?
5. Most important, can you accept Siberians for who they are? While Sibes like to please you, they have a mind of their own. They are energetic, fun loving, sometimes mischievous, and highly intelligent. Their free-spirited, independent nature is also instinctive to make them good decision makers as sled dogs. Perhaps the best Siberian owners are those who themselves are high energy, independent and free-spirited.
6. As a parent, we view raising Siberians as a similar experience to raising children. The best parents are neither authoritarian nor permissive. They are democratic, that is, allowing “freedom within limits”.
So, after contemplating all this, are you committed to owning and loving a Siberian for its lifetime? Are you ready to go through our customary adoption procedures?
If the answer is “yes” you may be our kind of Siberian parents. Feel free to contact us
